The field of modern statistics involves much more than just collecting, organising and presenting numbers. It is the source of methods and techniques which aid research and business to make reliable conclusions from observations that contain variation. This course explores the essential cores of mathematics alongside a more in-depth understanding of modern statistics, as you build an understanding of the application of mathematics and data analysis. Applying maths and statistical methods to commercial problems develops a rational approach to problem-solving. You will build an understanding of the applications of mathematics, statistics and data analysis with a particular focus on the emerging field of data science. You will use software packages to develop your understanding of the subject and to help you solve problems. The facets and rigour developed will not only enable you to become a specialist in the fields of mathematics and statistics, but also allow you the insight and techniques to open a wide range of situations and areas outside of mathematics. You will build an understanding of the applications of mathematics, statistics and data analysis with a particular focus on the emerging field of data science. You will also have the opportunity to use current software packages to develop your understanding of the subject.
