About the course
If you’re passionate about mathematics and also want to explore how to succeed in today’s financial industries, this course is for you.You’ll build on your core knowledge of pure and applied mathematics and statistics, while discovering the world of mathematics tailored to financial analysis. You’ll learn from experts in both disciplines.Our modules are based on the latest research. You’ll experience contemporary concepts in mathematics and gain a solid grounding in how they apply outside of the classroom. Early on in your degree you take core modules, preparing you for your third year when you choose from a variety of options including:- financial mathematics- financial risk management- valuation of companies and cash flow generating assets- derivatives.You’ll develop your analytical and modelling skills using industry-standard software such as MATLAB, Python and R.Academic advisers support you throughout and you’ll have lots of opportunities to engage with potential employers. You’ll also have a dedicated careers adviser. Our graduates have gone to work in a range of industries including:- finance and accounting- banking and investment- risk analysis- insurance.You’ll graduate with the skills needed for success in the financial sector. You’ll gain experience in analysing large data sets, coding and team working.The Department of Mathematics is a close-knit community where you’ll get to know your lecturers. AccreditationThis programme will meet the educational requirements of the Chartered Mathematician designation, awarded by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, when it is followed by subsequent training and experience in employment to obtain equivalent competences to those specified by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for taught masters degrees.
