This course can lead to a broad range of careers in marketing, particularly within marketing communications or advertising. You will gain a broad and deep knowledge of each marketing communications channel, with a focus on advertising. You will develop communications plans that stand up to academic scrutiny and present your work to real world clients. You will pitch to clients, who will critique your technique and your response to a brief. Your work will build into a portfolio you can be proud to show recruiters.
What you will study
Real 'pitching' experience in front of top marketing communication professionals. Career and employability focus through integrated tasks and workshops. Broad and deep knowledge across all areas of communications, with a focus on advertising. Highly interactive lecture sessions will develop your critical thinking by putting the emphasis on discussion and debate and the exchange of ideas between lecturers and students. You will put theory into practice through applied in-class exercises as well as an exciting assessment that enables you to devise a strategic communications plan via a live company brief. Guest lectures by specialist practitioners and industry experts will give you unique insight into the challenges faced by companies in today's competitive landscape.
Teaching and assessment
Assessment typically comprises exams (eg test or exam), practical (eg presentations, performance) and coursework (eg essays, reports, self-assessment, portfolios, dissertation).
After you graduate
Graduates from this course typically enter the workplace in a variety of communications, public relations and consultant roles, and have a strong foundation on which to progress their careers to the top. Some graduates decide to continue their studies at Kingston University though doctoral research, and many decide to use the skills they have learned to set themselves up in business.
A 2:2 or above honours degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Candidates with non-standard qualifications but with relevant experience are welcome to apply.
