The aim is to advance graduates sensibilities in creative collaboration, and advanced skills in scriptwriting. The course prepares individuals to engage confidently with, and challenge, the fast-changing media landscape. Collaborative projects and research will help you meet the film and television industry professional standards and understand the cultural and industrial needs of your chosen sector.

Programme Overview

This course is designed to teach students the platforms, audiences, genres, and writing skills that a professional screenwriter needs to have a successful career in the creative sectors.

  • 2-year part-time programme allows you the flexibility to work while training as a screenwriter.
  • High proportion of scheduled contact hours provides students with substantial one-to-one development time
  • Taught by working industry professionals, including script development executives from the British Film Institute, the Script Factory, BBC and a range of production companies.
  • Small class sizes and specialist seminar groups

Careers

The course will help you become an adaptive thinker, a creator and a supportive contributing team player joining the next generation of filmmakers. Typical career destinations of MA Screenwriting graduates within the Television, Film and Theatre industries include: Screenwriter or Scriptwriter, a Script Reader or Editor, a Story Liner or Story Producer, a Drama Development Executive, Assistant, Editor or Producer, or a Film Critic.

Graduates can also seek work outside of the Film, Television and Theatre sector and work in Journalism, Video Games narrative design and as a Podcast Content Creator.
