The MA Law (by research) programme lets you undertake in-depth and individually supervised research on a topic of your choosing. York Law School has a wide range of research expertise, spanning a diverse array of topics. We apply a variety of research methods, from doctrinal to philosophical, empirical, historical and critical. The MA Law (by research) programme lets you undertake in-depth and individually supervised research on a topic of your choosing. It allows you to develop your own format of study that will best enable you to fulfil your individual aims. The programme is available in all fields of expertise at York Law School, and with supervised research on your chosen topic, subject to supervisory availability. You will meet with your supervisors at least once every six weeks. This two-way relationship is something you both should benefit from, and will have a major influence on the progress of your research.Your supervisors will help to develop your intellectual interests by offering new perspectives on your chosen topic, suggesting appropriate academic contacts and events, and offering advice on publication.

Applicants will normally be expected to have obtained an undergraduate degree in Law, management, or one of the social sciences, with honours (2:1 or higher, or equivalent). Applicants with equivalent legal professional, management or commercial experience will also be considered on a case-by-case basis.
