We offer postgraduate research degrees at both Masters and PhD levels in a wide variety of historical subjects, genres, disciplines and methodologies. We offer postgraduate research degrees at both Masters and PhD levels in a wide variety of historical subjects, genres, disciplines and methodologies. We have a strong tradition of supporting postgraduate and early career researchers. History research at Hull ranges from Palaeolithic America, Roman Britain and medieval England and Ireland to the Middle East, by way of modern Australia, Britain, Europe and North America. Thematic strengths include Indigenous, maritime, military, global, social, economic, environmental, cultural, intellectual and political history, as well as the history of slavery and of adaptive technologies. Hull students benefit from the ESRC-funded White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership and the Leverhulme Doctoral Scholarships Centre for Water Cultures, amongst a range of doctoral funding opportunities. Archaeology: Archaeology is a well-established area of research at the University of Hull, and the lively mix between archaeology, geography and history ensures that students benefit from our exciting research culture. Our research sites are worldwide, collaborating with teams from institutions across the globe, developing cutting-edge research for a wide audience. There are two levels of research degree offered in Archaeology at Hull: MA by Thesis and PhD. The PhD prepares you for academic research and other high level careers. The MA by Thesis is ideal for those who would like to study without committing to a full PhD programme.
