Public International Law regulates the relationship between states, international organisations and non-state actors across borders. This course will introduce you to the nature, structure, legal sources and concepts of contemporary international law in addition to a number of key rules and principles. You will examine sources and hierarchy of international law and rules international legal personality the relationship between international and domestic law issues relating to jurisdiction the Law of Treaties state responsibility the peaceful settlement of international disputes and use of force. You will also consider issues of substantive public international law such as international humanitarian law and forced migration. This course will set you up for employment within public international law such as diplomacy or public relations. It will also assist you if you already work within this sector in taking on a more senior role. Please note that, due to Home Office regulations, students who require a Student Route visa to study with us are not permitted to study online and can only choose face-to-face taught modules.

Students should possess a UK undergraduate degree in any subject at 2:2 or above, or an equivalent qualification.A compulsory two week induction is required for all students, unless they can evidence the successful completion of either:an LLB or equivalent; ora minimum of 3 legal modules, worth at least 80 QCFcredits that must include;English Legal SystemContract LawLaw of TortNon-standard EntryROUTE A:You possess an undergraduate degree with a grade below that of a 2:2 (3rd or Ordinary)AND EITHERA professional qualification at level 6 or above from a business professional body, e.g. CIM, CMI, CFA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPD, etcORAt least two years of proven professional work experience with two professional referencesROUTE B:Please note this route is only available for applicants who do not require a UK Student Route Visa to study with the University.You possess no formal qualifications. You will need to provide 5 years of proven professional work experience that is linked to your intended area of study. You must also provide at least one professional reference, that must include being from your most recent employer and links to your intended area of study. You may also be required to attend a formal interview.
