Bournemouth University

World class facilities make the University a home away from home. The University also caters to student’s needs and you will always have a place to turn to and you will never feel alone. This has really helped with managing Culture Shock in Britain. The University has so many clubs and societies it would be amazing if a student didn’t find a place to fit in! And the Library is open 24/7. Imagine that kind of dedication from the University to support students academically! The University has a very supportive Student Union which really goes out there to make students feel looked out for. And this week I met my student Buddy, who is ideally someone I was paired with who can help me learn about the University, the facilities available to me as a student and other itty bits that make Uni life easier for me as an International student. Honestly, Bournemouth University is not what I expected. It is way MORE than I expected! I would honestly suggest this university to anyone who would consider a UK university. And as a bonus, Bournemouth is basically right next to the award winning sea in the South of England. Sure it’s cold now, but can’t wait for when the weather is better! Here’s to more adventure and here’s to Bournemouth Uni!!!

Best Aspects of My University Experience: One of the best things about my university is the abundance of part-time job opportunities within the university itself. I have personally benefited from roles such as a Community Warden and Student Ambassador, which have helped me gain valuable experience while also easing my financial situation. The campus facilities are excellent, providing students with everything they need for both academic success and well-being. The Student Union (SUBU) is highly active and works hard to support students, offering fantastic initiatives such as a community kitchen, free groceries, and even free sandwiches during assignment periods in the library. These small but impactful efforts make a real difference in students’ lives. I also appreciate the wide range of social activities that allow students to meet new people and feel connected, which is especially important for international students like me. Academically, the university offers high-quality education, and one of the things I value most is the accessibility of lecturers. They are always open to discussions and provide guidance when needed. Additionally, services like ASKBU offer constant support for academic and administrative queries. One of the aspects I appreciate the most is the university’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity. There is strong support for minority groups, LGBTQ+ students, and students with disabilities. The university ensures that everyone has equal access to opportunities, resources, and accommodations to help them succeed. There are various student-led societies and initiatives promoting equality, representation, and a sense of belonging, which makes the university a welcoming and safe space for all. Another major advantage is the university's understanding and flexibility when students face difficulties. For example, if a student is going through a challenging time, they can apply for an assignment extension without it negatively affecting their grades or relationships with lecturers. The university also provides mental health and well-being support, ensuring that students always have someone to turn to. Challenges I Have Faced: One of the challenges I faced was finding accommodation. Since I preferred to live in a house rather than a dormitory, I struggled to find a suitable place and ended up staying in a hotel for a month. However, this was more due to housing market demand and timing rather than a university-related issue, as the university itself provides plenty of accommodation options. Being an international student, finances can sometimes be a challenge due to higher living costs. However, thanks to the part-time jobs available at the university and SUBU, I’ve been able to manage my expenses more effectively. Lastly, one of the biggest adjustments for me has been the weather. Coming from a sunnier climate, it took me some time to adapt to the lack of sunshine, and I had to start taking vitamin D supplements to maintain my energy levels. Overall, despite these challenges, my university experience has been overwhelmingly positive. The support systems in place, both academically and personally, have made a huge difference in helping me thrive as a student.

I love bournemouth and the university. The teachers are very helpful and if i need help they will help me or direct me to the correct person.

I love the different campuses and the great range of places to be, along with the sports facilities. There are also a range of areas with different atmospheres in study / chill / hangout in and overall is quite welcoming.

The serene environment, friendly and wonderful staff and students and the student union involvement in students affairs, beautiful students activities that helps incorporate students into the commnity
