It’s great if you want a small city life. It’s nice that everything becomes familiar so quick because York is quite small. The college system is a great way to make friends and there are lots of sports opportunities available both competitively and socially. The amount of societies you can join is amazing. however one thing they could improve on is the food. I’m catered and it’s alright but I think I could cook something nicer for myself to be honest.

I feel very welcome at York, the spaces for studying etc. are really good. I think one thing that could be improved is maybe making more study spaces and have a range of noisiness?

I enjoy the campus feel and how it is surrounded by nature. I enjoy the range of study spaces. It would be nice to see more campus hub type areas. Such as a students union building.

it's a lovely place to study, I love my course a lot. Could improve on the rent situation - intervene on student rent going up for student properties in the city. They also keep building new and expensive on-campus student accommodation which is difficult for everyone to afford.

I like the variety of buildings and facilities, and how the two campuses are easily reachable. There are lots of study spaces which make me feel encouraged to work and my tutors have almost always been helpful and supportive (especially in the languages department). East campus looks beautiful at night and the university is only a short bus ride away from York city centre and the Minster, which students can visit for free. That being said though there isn’t much variety of shops that are easy to get to without taking the bus- the nisa shops on campus can be very expensive. Student Union activities are great at the university, cheap admission to the student cinema is a great opportunity to get out with flatmates and societies like yoga society have made me already feel welcome and allow me to stay active numerous times a week without paying extortionate prices to visit a studio like at home. Also convenient is the handful of Amazon lockers and campus mailrooms, as well as post boxes, which for the most part are in very convenient locations for me. Seminars have helped me to start interesting conversations with others on my course which every week encourages me to do readings and finish work to a high standard.
