Our Law and Politics (LLB) programme has been designed to develop your knowledge and understanding of how legal systems are located within a changing political and international relations context and how the law is shaped by that context.

Law is a subject that can be applied to virtually every aspect of our lives. From the receipt in your pocket to how your treated in the workplace, and so much in between. Its also never been more topical. Whether thats local, national, or international concerns. Think political protests and human rights. Or sustainable agriculture, trade and transport. Or regulating AI and social media. Think money laundering and the financing of terrorism. Or the ethics of end-of-life choices. And what about fractured families, access to housing, or dealing with debt.

Our programme will teach you to find, interpret and apply the law of England and Wales, while at the same time exploring the broader concepts that underpin our legal system. You will explore how parliaments, governments and international organisations function, and evaluate ideas such as justice, power, freedom, democracy, human rights, conflict, legitimacy or accountability. Modules are varied, giving you insights into law and politics in Wales, the UK, Europe, and across the globe, and investigating how public policy is made.

In addition to the academic skills and knowledge youll acquire, you can benefit from our range of opportunities for professional development and putting your skills into practice. Our pro bono schemes work in partnership with lawyers, charities, and voluntary organisations, helping members of the community with legal matters, completely free of charge. Through these schemes, and working on real cases, youll develop skills in client care, legal research, writing and public speaking, and communication in all forms.

We also offer other placement and work experience opportunities. Paralegal placements with a range of solicitors are available, developing key practitioner skills such as case management and legal writing, alongside general workplace and employability skills, and short public administration placements are offered in the context of a Year 3 optional module.

With a view on your progression in law, our programme offers the core subjects required by the Bar Standards Board for future barristers and which are also foundational for practice as a solicitor. Youll gain the knowledge and skills you need, while optional modules will allow you to develop specialist interests or explore diverse legal topics.

Our commitment to supporting your professional development and aspirations also includes tailored careers support within the school. Youll have access to advice and guidance which will help inform you about your options and make decisions for your future. Your skills, experiences and knowledge will be valuable to a range of different careers. Our graduates can be found in finance, sales and marketing, digital communications, the media, recruitment, and many other sectors.
