Our Department of Law and Criminology has a reputation for high quality research and teaching. Whilst studying law and criminology at Royal Holloway you will explore the fundamental principles of justice, equity and equality within the framework of English and European law. You will be introduced to the discipline of criminology and will review some of the key debates in criminology. This degree is for anyone looking to start a career in the legal profession. It is also for those who are interested in the legal system and the ways in which laws are made and upheld along with the study of crime. You will be equipped with a wide range of transferable skills, which are highly sought after by employers in a wide variety of fields.You will consider a range of legal subjects which apply to different problems within both the legal and public sectors. This will enable you to understand how the law regulates agreements between individuals and the relationship between the individual and the state. You will also consider the range of current debates in criminology with a view to understanding why people commit crime. In addition to acquiring invaluable skills in research and oral presentation, you will have the opportunity to choose from a range of subjects in fields such as family law, medical law, company law and public international law along with criminology options in terrorism, sentencing and penal policy and gender and crime. By electing to spend a year in industry you will also have ample opportunities to integrate theory and practice and gain real world experience.Duration: 4 years full time
