really good feel on campus have never felt u safe or unsupported! all the staff and lecturers are welcoming and engaging to interact with! there is always lots going on within the colleges and in the town even though it is definitely a quieter night life than somewhere like nottingham it is still plentiful i think there could be greater input from student on certain activities such a refreshers week plans or activities within certain society not allowing for any bonding! also think slightly more guidance on exams and essay structure before exam season rather than after!

The support from the university is great, especially for underrepresented students. Their commitment to this is outstanding and exemplary. However, the libraries can quickly become overcrowded.

The university are very flexible and accommodating to my needs as a disabled student with learning difficulties. There is room for improvement in this area, as with all universities (hence the overall rating of 4/5), but they have definitely been extremely helpful through the process of my diagnosis. They are also helpful with general worries and concerns. There is always support available and they very clearly signpost you to these services. Whatever issues that you have, they are keen to help you to sort them out, whether it be academic, personal, social or mental. The student life in York is great and I cannot emphasise how much safer it is than other cities. I feel 100x safer in York than I do in any other city. The only issue is the transport. Getting the bus after a night out is a nightmare, especially if you go out on a non-student night. FirstBus is unreliable and irritating, so be prepared to spend quite some money on ubers. Accommodation is great, depending where you choose. There is a college system which makes it very easy for students to meet similar people. College sports is big in York, especially with the Roses competition that is held once a year. I'm not even sporty but being at UOY has encouraged me to be more sporty, and now I am part of committee on a sports society. The socials are great too. The only issue with accommodation is West Campus - it looks a bit rundown but they make up for it with beautiful accomodation on East, and I've never really heard someone seriously complain about student accomodation provided by the university.

Very calming place with lots of support available. My accommodation is really nice and everyone I’ve met has been pleasant and welcoming. The university itself offers a lot of academic resources and I’m constantly being told about new opportunities and career possibilities which is really helpful. I think it could be improved by a better campus because some area are a little outdated and worn down but this doesn’t affect my specific course so I’m unsure if it affects people on those specific courses (e.g. the physics building uses old boards and still uses chalk and blackboards). I think the uni could do more to help with public transportation given that the local bus company (First) no longer offers free travel except between campuses and this makes bus travel slightly unaffordable in a city that’s supposed to be quite cheap

Lovely place of study full of enthusiastic yet chill students and helpful teaching staff. Highly recommend if you're interested in pursuing extra-curricular and cocurricular activities along with your academics and have a well rounded experience.
