Our Law with Criminology degree is suited to those who wish to achieve a recognised legal qualification with a strong interest in criminology, and an excellent starting point if you’re thinking of a career with a specific criminological interest. This programme provides you with the opportunity to obtain a qualifying law degree whilst also gaining an awareness of current issues in criminology. By studying these complementary subjects side by side, you will ensure that you have the academic training required to pursue a career within the legal sector or within a wide range of other professions. You will be taught by highly qualified staff from within the School of Justice and by renowned and extensively published criminology academics. You will gain an awareness of current legal issues and of current issues in criminology – debates surrounding criminal justice, social control and the role of the police. The course covers all of the core law modules required for a qualifying law degree as well as considering both the nature of crime and criminality and society’s response to it.

Explain and discuss the constituent institutions and processes of English and EU legal systems and the broader legal and political contexts within which they operate.
Explore the primary concepts of criminal responsibility, by reference to specific offences and defences.
Explore the structure and substantive content of common law and statutory principles that comprise English Contract Law, using relevant research skills and legal databases. You'll apply these to hypothetical scenarios to produce persuasive legal arguments and reasoned conclusions.
In this module, you'll look at issues of injustice and discrimination in society and consider the role and limits of law and legal policies in addressing them.
Learn about the interaction and development of law with new/emerging technologies and how this presents challenges and opportunities for both resolving and creating legal issues.
Explore the meaning and legal scope of a range of civil wrongs which comprise tortious liability in English Law, including how and why they are created and breached, and with what legal effect, including remedies and limitations.
Explore how a range of civil, criminal, and administrative rules, procedures and remedies protect consumers and businesses from disappointment and harm when supplied with defective goods and services.
Consolidate and build on learning of skills development from Year 1 by introducing more advanced legal, academic and employability skills to support the effective study of law and graduate career planning and action.
Explore ley legal concepts and principles which comprise the structure of international and European Law and evaluate their role and effectiveness.
Explore a range of alternative dispute resolution processes and procedures, comparing their strengths and limitations and highlighting practical and ethical issues from their use compared to traditional legal approaches to resolving disputes.
To explore the origins, rationale, principles and operation of natural and positive law sources relating to the English law of equity and trusts, and apply this law to practical scenarios to resolve the legal issues therein.

In this module, you will explore the rationale, principles, and operation of cases and statutes of English Land Law and apply these rules to client-based problem scenarios to produce persuasive legal arguments and conclusions.
