Our LLB in Law (Law and Technology Pathway) combines legal training with an exploration of the role of law in responding to and shaping technological innovation. The Pathway includes all the core subjects currently required for a qualifying law degree, while giving you the opportunity to specialise in law and technology and gain digital lawyering skills that are critical to the changing global economy and workplace.We are at an industry turning point, both in terms of the use of technology in the business and practice of law, as well as the growing importance of legal questions and challenges related to the rapid pace of technological change. This course is designed to give you the competitive edge.Graduation from Surrey will stand you in good stead for accessing the postgraduate qualifications necessary to become a solicitor or a barrister. What you will studyOur Law and Technology Pathway will enable you to understand rapidly changing technological developments and market conditions around the world, while drawing on your legal knowledge and analytical skills to solve complex problems.You’ll gain a deep understanding of the main areas of legal knowledge, including law as it regulates the functions of the state (public law and criminal law), regulates relations between private individuals (contract law and tort law), and regulates the ownership and control of land and other property (land law, and equity and trusts).In addition to these core subjects, after the first year you will immerse yourself in the ways that technology is shaping and improving the practice of law, and how the law must evolve to keep pace with technological change.You will learn how to evaluate the law, analyse its application in given situations and apply your legal understanding in a national or international context. We also provide a series of employability training seminars, digital lawyering and pro bono opportunities and extracurricular activities focusing on client interviewing, negotiation and mooting.
