About the course

The degree is based at our ultra-modern £60 million City Hub campus providing access to professional equipment, studio spaces and Adobe Creative Suite along with other relevant software. You'll have opportunities to engage with other students preparing to get into the creative industries and work in response to industry briefs. Guest speakers provide a valuable insight into the practical use of modern digital journalism platforms.Our goal is to shape you into a journalist grounded in strong ethical principles and with a commitment to social justice. We strive to ensure that the media reflects the diverse communities we live in; giving a voice to those who might otherwise be silent and telling stories that matter.This brand new course has been developed in collaboration with industry, ensuring you graduate ready to compete for your dream job, or continue onto postgraduate study.


Year 1 (Level 4) modules:

-Introducing Journalism-Media Law and Ethical Reporting-Broadcast Studio Production Project-Digital Skills for Journalism-Podcasting-Micro-Documentary


Year 2 (Level 5) modules:

-Newsroom Practice-Online Journalism-Ethics and Society-Current Affairs Documentary


Year 3 (Level 6) modules:

-Investigative Journalism-Independent Project


Facilities:

Our Digital Media Centre opened in 2022 and is home to the latest technology and industry standard equipment. With our fully immersive green screen, NDI studio, podcast suite, and state-of-the-art 4K/6K cameras, we're proud to inspire the next generation of media professionals, giving them the hands-on experience they need to help them become future ready.


Assessment

A combination of traditional and innovative assessment methods are used: including case studies, group projects, live briefs, peer review, time-constrained assessments and presentations. There are no examinations.


Bursaries

We want our courses to be accessible to students from any background, so we’ve put together a cash support package in the form of non-repayable bursaries to provide financial help where it’s really needed.
