The international tourism and events sector has witnessed phenomenal growth and significant change in recent years. With global opportunities and a range of career choices, there has never been a more exciting time to pursue a career in international tourism and events management.
Our programme develops your cultural understanding of events and tourism, and how they impact on society and the environment. You will be equipped with business and management knowledge incorporating an international perspective. This includes planning, marketing, and staffing through to risk assessment and securing funding to create, manage and deliver successful events and tourism initiatives.
You'll benefit from interactive and hands-on learning experiences, collaborating with business using social media, wikis and blogs, providing you with practical skills that you can carry forward into your career.
You will also benefit from industry speakers, field trips and real-life business simulations that will provide you with networking opportunities, key insights and a competitive edge on entering the industry.
Assessment
A range of assessment methods are used which are designed to provide the knowledge and understanding required by the aims of the programme, and to develop an array of intellectual, professional and transferable skills. As a result, a balance of exams and coursework assessments has been developed.
The nature of coursework assessments range from: individual and group-based projects leading to individual and group reports, including group and individual presentations and self and peer review exercises.
Teaching Methods
The learning and teaching methods we use ensure that the programme is both vocationally relevant and academically challenging. Our approach is student-centred, practical and relevant to the needs of the student and employers. We've moved the focus to a more independent learning approach, where you will be encouraged to generate and critically evaluate theory and practice.
As well as the traditional lecture, seminar and workshop formats, we adopt a multi-platform approach to learning that includes a wide range of supporting material, including podcasts, webinars (internet-based seminars), discussion boards and independent (including web-based) study. In tutorials, we encourage students to participate and contribute to the learning environment through discussion and group work.
