You will gain knowledge of the context in which the international oil and gas industry operates, including the business and investment environment created by competing policy goals of energy security and environmental sustainability locally and internationally. You will develop an understanding of primary strategic management and financial tools and learn how to apply them to analyse the key management and financing issues relating to oil and gas resources exploitation, trade, processing, and consumption.

You will develop intellectual and practical skills to

  • authoritatively use analytical methodologies to understand management and financing issues in the international oil and gas industry
  • critically review the information and effectively communicate complex ideas related to management
  • collaborate effectively with others to solve problems
  • demonstrate leadership and advisory capabilities.

You will gain transferable and employability skills to

  • locate, extract, analyse, and refer to data from a range of sources, including appropriate acknowledgements and referencing of sources
  • effectively communicate by presenting information clearly and concisely in writing and orally, including communicating in groups
  • make use of communication and information technology (including commonly used and up-to-date versions of applications software)
  • take personal responsibility, make effective decisions, and manage time through independent work such as choosing topics for research papers and projects or internship reports

You will be given a schedule of modules at induction that lists the core, compulsory, and elective modules. The elective modules may include modules offered by any discipline from within the School of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Law (e.g. Law, Geography) and School of Business. You will have the support of academic advisers for module selection.
