Prepare for direct entry to an undergraduate degree in a Science or Engineering related subject at Newcastle University. Develop an understanding of essential concepts in mathematics and their applications in physical sciences and engineering. Enhance your academic study with practical experience gained through field trips and laboratory work. Improve your English language skills and vocabulary within the context of science and engineering. Expand your skills and knowledge in basic and advanced mathematical topics such as the core methods of calculus, differentiation and integration, as well as algebra, geometry and numerical methods. Learn specialist modules in chemistry, physics or computing. Upon successful completion of this programme, you will be awarded our International Foundation Certificate (RQF Level 3).

This module will be completed in the first term of study. Through this module, you'll develop the skills needed for undertaking study in English. You'll focus on the four core language skills : Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking, and learn how these are applied in an academic context.
Develop your competence in several important areas of mathematics, including: solving equations and inequalities coordinate geometry, functions and graphs polynomial division, factor and remainder theorems partial fractions numerical integration matrices, vectors and complex numbers
Learn to solve problems of limited complexity using differential and integral calculus. You will study: indices, surds and logarithms trig equations and identities parametric equations partial differentiation circular motion and simple harmonic motion
Building on basic physics knowledge to develop your descriptive and mathematical of physical principles, preparing you for undergraduate study of this subject. You will cover: vectors and scalars temperature and thermal physics waves and oscillation magnetic and electric fields
This module focuses on developing core study and research skills as preparation for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.
Spreadsheet Modelling and Decision Making or Database Management Systems
Develop the study skills needed for university. Alongside core ICT skills and understanding teaching, learning and assessment in the UK, you will cover the following: note-taking library and information skills writing essays and reports oral presentation examination and revision techniques
