This module will be completed in the first term of study. Through this module, you'll develop the skills needed for undertaking study in English. You'll focus on the four core language skills : Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking, and learn how these are applied in an academic context.
An introduction to British institutions and culture, providing you with an awareness in preparation for university.
Understand sociological concepts and methodological approaches, by studying these areas: theoretical approaches key sociological issues political context through which social policy is implemented interpreting human behaviour
Examine the nature of academic knowledge and research in the areas of social sciences and humanities. You will also undertake a study of the city of Newcastle and its region from various perspectives including: geographical and sociological political and historical cultural and artistic
Focus on mathematical concepts and principles through English. You will cover the following areas: statistics and probability algebra and symbolic representation graphing techniques equation handling
This module focuses on developing core study and research skills as preparation for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.
Develop the study skills needed for university. Alongside core ICT skills and a 2,000-word independent research project, you will cover the following: note-taking and research skills library and information skills writing essays and reports oral presentation examination and revision technique team working
