Our Inflammation and Ageing PhD/MSc by Research in the Institute of Inflammation and Ageing will provide you with the necessary skills to contribute to research focusing on finding solutions to a range of chronic inflammation-driven illnesses through a highly collaborative approach with University Hospitals Birmingham.

You will work amongst the very best researchers to produce original and distinctive world-leading research, with the ultimate goal to identify shared biological mechanisms that define the functional features of chronic inflammatory disease by integrating disease specific expertise.

Our PhD/MSc by Research program will provide you with high quality research training to enable you to conduct independent investigative research.

You can choose from a wide range of research areas within Inflammation and Ageing covering:

  • Issues of ageing
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Long term consequences of major injury
  • Chronic Inflammation
  • Dementia
  • Osteoporosis

You will work closely with your supervisory team who will help you clarify your project and support your development. Your thesis will represent an original contribution to knowledge and demonstrate independent judgement.
