We are a community of illustrators that tell stories through images. We emphasize curiosity and innovation in our approach to illustration, and we embrace mistakes as part of our process.ExperimentationExploration and experimentation are at the core of our practice. As artists we ask why, and use materials and images to find the answers.Socially engaged practiceWe engage in a critical and socially engaged understanding of the world around us so that our illustrators can embark on an inclusive, sustainable and self-aware artistic practice.ResearchWe emphasize practice-based research as well as written critical analysis, exploring personal objectives and extending our understanding of how illustration can make positive changes both locally and globally. Our illustration graduates go on to all kinds of career possibilities. Students complete a placement in the second year so they start to learn what avenue they want to pursue. They work with freelance illustrators, social justice organisations, animation studios, and many other studios. As a course we visit or collaborate with Thought Bubble, London Book Fair, The Wilson Museum, and Cheltenham Literature Festival. We invite publishers, agents, and working illustrators throughout the year and go out to studio visits, including Jelly London, NoBrow Press, and Handsome Frank.
