University of Sunderland

The University of Sunderland has good and not-so-good things to consider. On the positive side, they have strong programs in subjects you like, good facilities such as libraries and labs, and transportation system and helpful support services for students. The location is also important; some people like busy cities, while others prefer quieter places. The faculty of University is highly qualified and co-operative. On the not-so-good side, you need to think about the cost of studying there, including tuition fees and living expenses. The size of classes matters too; some students prefer smaller classes for more attention from teachers. My personal suggestion to University is that after taking 50% fee, the remaining 50% fee should be in instalments for the ease of the students. Because new place sometimes takes time for adjustments.

Every student is being carried along towards the success of our program. Lectures are so friendly and patient. The people and experience is worth every step I took and I will urge everyone to experience it and acquire more knowledge.

The best aspect is the loving lecturers doing their best for the students while the worst part for me was/is getting to mix with other people from other culture, it’s been a bit challenging but it’s gonna be worth it at the end. Also duties winter, having lectures when it’s dark is not too good.

As a disabled student with hidden disability and other health conditions, I was nervous about coming to a big university. I knew Sunderland uni had a good reputation but I never expected it to be this amazing, I needn't have worried. It’s such an inclusive and supportive environment. There’s a huge focus on social mobility and well-being too. And there is a lot going on to support people with disabilities or those with mental health problems and who are in recovery. There’s also a lot going on to prevent loneliness such as friendship groups and organised walks, and a huge focus on helping people prepare for employment, such as industry insight scheme or mentoring scheme. I get emails most days about new opportunities and there’s something for everybody if you want to do anything extra. I find all of this so important as it’s the kind of thing what makes a huge difference for me. The only down side is that I’m not in main campus, I’m at St Peters, and although I love it here, the Student Union doesn’t use their building here anymore, they come to a stand for certain hours, where you can approach them, but this clashes with lectures so it’s hard to get to see anybody face to face. I’d like it to be more like how the main site have a proper SU place. But we can email them too. Apart from that, there is no down side for me, I’ve never had support like this before. I even found the uni have an out of hours line you can call if you’re experiencing issues with mental health, I know people who have used it and its been a lifeline to some. I recommend this university so highly, especially for those who have additional needs and want to be valued as an equal, because equality, diversity and inclusion are priorities here, and the staff are doing an amazing job of things.

I think the teaching quality and facilities in our university are excellent, which allows me to learn knowledge freely and happily. The teachers are very responsible and patient with my classmates

The teaching was very good as they are dedicated towards their students and their success. There were many amazing reading materials which were signposted for easy access. The worst would be the food. It was difficult to get food as there wasn't enough timings vs the quing. We had apps for everything yet no online menu of what was available so we had to que up to see what we wanted and if nothing looked appealing then we had wasted our lunch break. There was no clear sign of where to get hot food which was more then just a panini. Lots of cold and quick food available though.
