The MRes in Human Geography: Spaces, Politics, Ecologies engages at an advanced level with conceptual debates in human geography, with cutting edge methodological approaches and with the skills needed to communicate geographical ideas beyond the academy. The course will equip you with the knowledge and skills appropriate to undertake independent research in human geography. The research skills fostered and developed through the course can also be used in a range of different contexts such as the public sector, NGOs, trade unions and research consultancies.
WHY THIS PROGRAMME
The work of the teaching team is at the forefront of debates in critical geographies and there is particular expertise in environmental geographies, cultural, historical, political and social geography.
This programme will equip you with independent research skills which will be transferrable to careers in research in public, private and voluntary sectors.
The programme has a strong track record of preparing students for doctoral research in Human Geography.
The teaching team includes editors of leading journals in geography including Antipode, GeoHumanities and Urban Studies.
The programme draws on the teaching staff’s extensive experience of working beyond the academy in collaborations with a diverse range of organisations in both the global North and South.
You will be encouraged to engage in significant critical depth with specific theories and literatures and supported to develop your own critical perspectives.
You will develop your own individual research project in the form of a dissertation supported by expert supervision.
MRes students are part of broader human geography related activity such as the regular meetings of the Human Geography Research Group.
