Academic and vocational skills development is essential preparation for progression to either higher level study or the world of work. With its strong practical emphasis, you’ll develop a broad range of skills and an understanding of the global hospitality and visitor economy industries.All of our lecturers have excellent, in-depth industrial knowledge and experience. We have long-standing links with local, national and international companies. A five-month industrial placement gives first-hand work experience. Students can visit a wide range of establishments worldwide, or find their chosen placement closer to home. There are opportunities to attend study tours abroad - most recently to BSG Interns in Florida - as well as a programme of local and national visits.A feature of the course allows the opportunity to personalise studies through a variety of specialist vocational options. This is intended to developing students’ learning and experiences through involvement in practical projects and activities:- Culinary Product Development – the analysis and evaluation of advanced contemporary culinary practices.**Year 1 modules include:**-Developing Research Skills-Hospitality and Visitor Economy Operations-Employability Enhancement-Marketing and Exploring the Customer Experience-Sector Operational Development (including placement)**Year 2 core modules include:**-Employee and Organisations Interface-Hospitality and Visitor Economy Business Principles-Management Techniques and Employability Development-Research Project-Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development**Assessment**Assignments are industry-focused to develop the relevant skills of managing tasks and solving problems. Most modules are either individual or group assignments, some of which can be practical, using local industry contacts.**Bursaries**We want our courses to be accessible to students from any background, so we've put together a cash support package in the form of non-repayable bursaries to provide financial help where it's really needed.
