About this course
The HNC allows students to specialise in either Acting, Dance or Musical Theatre. This course has a large focus on practical work, developing skills and techniques in preparation for performance. On the course, students complete 2 core units in the Performing Arts industry and professional development with the remaining 6 units being a choice of each student, allowing for a bespoke course to be created. The units on this course are project-based, working towards live performance and filmed productions. This will allow students to create a professional portfolio to take forward into their careers. In the Acting units, you will cover classical and contemporary theatre, physical and vocal skills of the actor and film and TV performance as well as devising and scripted work. Within the Dance units you will study a variety of styles such as ballet, contemporary, jazz and commercial. You will learn about choreography and take part in dance for camera. On the Musical Theatre pathway, you will study all three disciplines (Acting, Singing and Jazz Dance). You will explore a variety of musical theatre styles which will culminate in performing in full productions. The transferable skills that students will develop on this course include. ● Effective writing skills ● Critical thinking ● Creativity ● Team building ● Digital literacy ● Competence in assessment methods used in higher education.

Progression & Careers
Successful graduands will have the opportunity to progress to the HND at Burnley College where they can further specialise in their chosen discipline, with a view to topping up to a full degree following that.
