The Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Healthcare Professions’ Support for England offers students a broad introduction to the subject area via a mandatory core of learning. This effectively builds underpinning core skills while preparing the student for subject specialisation at Level 5. Students will gain a wide range of sector knowledge tied to practical skills gained in evidence-based practice, personal research, self-study, directed study and workplace learning and experience. At Level 4, students develop a broad knowledge and awareness of key aspects of the healthcare sector through seven core units, which include one unit assessed by a Pearson-set assignment. Learners will complete work-based experience as part of the programme which will greatly enhance their employability on completion of the programme. The HNC is comprised on six 15 credit modules and one 30 credit module: -Law, Policy and Ethical Practice -Demonstrating Professional Principles and Values in Health and Social Care Practice (30 credits) -Supporting the Individual Journey through Integrated Health and Social Care -Fundamentals of Evidence-based Practice (Pearson-set unit) -Principles of Health Education -Effective Healthcare Practice Using Maths -Applied Anatomy and Physiology. The emphasis throughout the programme is on the use of a variety of assessment methods designed to support the development of the learner's knowledge and understanding. This will be formative and summative in order to ensure development and learning through and around the sessions, to provide a formal method of success. Learners where possible, will use their workplace as a focus for their written assignments, encouraging the integration and comparison of theory to practice. Work based Learning and employer engagement are facilitated through the Personal Development Process, and learners will collate a Practical Learning and Assessment and Development Portfolio (PLAD).
