Newman have a small supportive community who focus on employability after graduation their student union is nothing but helpful. its location its self is amazing by being in birmingham you get all the perks of the second city but without the hustle and bustle of being in the city centre. They are so inclusive and the student union represent this so well. and their student support services are amazing for a university on what they offer.

I was a January starter and from my application to getting accepted then starting all the staff have been really helpful especially as I am a mature student. The welcoming and support that the university offer is something you can't describe. From the good morning as you walk through the university to the staff at Starbucks to then your tutors is just a warm feeling. Very proud to be apart of Birmingham's Newman university.

I enjoy studying at Newman as it’s a welcoming environment and inclusive to all types of people no matter where they come from or who they are. However some of the staff are rude and don’t treat you as adults

It’s a great university as the staff and their support is amazing and the campus is easy to get too the campus is all together making it easier to get to lectures which is great .

I remember, in 2023, attending an offer holder day and asking why I should risk attending a brand new course at Birmingham Newman University when there are other that have been running the same course for decades, offering a safer route into nursing for students. In short, the reply was very empowering. I was told that having a brand new course means a brand new, up-to-date skill set. Each lecturer there at the time, used their experience to create a programme that was student friendly, allowing the student to be at the forefront of their education. Having such a small yet diverse cohort is a very good way for people to study. The lecturers have time for me to sit down and go over assessment feedback, and offer honest constructive criticism which has been amassed from their experiences and registered clinicians. Having such a small cohort allows me to know each colleague on a personal level, unknowingly learning teamworking skills on the back of any clinical and theory skills set out in the syllabus. Whilst the dining options leave room for improvement, there are local amenities off campus for students to enjoy meal times so it's not really a concern for myself. Overall, I am happy and proud to have taken the risk and listened to the feedback from my offer holder day. This was what was starting my mental health nursing career and now I am progressing, I cannot wait to see what the future holds.
