You will develop a sound scientific underpinning knowledge, but also gain skills in health care and specifically in recognising and planning for nutritional related health issues. It encompasses a wide range of situations and scenarios, developing the people skills as well as the knowledge required to work with individuals. It also involves broader roles, such as working with schools and groups, using persuasive and informational techniques and exploring the cultural and social barriers which inhibit sensible nutritional behaviours.The combination of practical and academic skills you will gain from the course will make you the ideal candidate for a wide range of jobs in the field of Health and Nutrition Professional placement will increase your skills and make you more attractive to employers. It is particularly important if you want to work in Health Promotion, or if you are considering teaching. Take advantage of work placements offered on the course to build up your skills and knowledge. Students can go on to work within the National Health Service, Health Promotion, The Education Sector and Leisure Industry.Please note that nutritionists do not give dietary advice to individual patients or work directly with patients without supervision. The University Centre Truro & Penwith is spread across two modern campuses in Cornwall, offering over 30 study programmes across 11 subject areas ranging from level four to postgraduate.
There is a great range of University level courses and subjects to choose from, and all the courses on offer are approved by the University of Plymouth, University of Greenwich and Pearson.
The University Centre’s two campuses are located in Truro and Penzance. There are also additional purpose-built arts centres at the Tregye Campus and the Penzance School of Art.
