This graduate-level diploma course builds your German language skills. It is suitable if you wish to teach German, or if you already have a school qualification in German (such as a Higher or A-level) and are looking to further your skills for work or personal interest. Using a combination of online tools, including web conferencing and online immersion days, you will increase your skills in the German language, including grammar and communication skills. You will also gain a wider knowledge of German culture and society, as well as themes such such as German literature, history, education, environment, and cinema. The course is organised into multiple modules of approximately ten weeks duration. The choice of assessments and the project allow you to focus on your own specific interest areas. There is no requirement for you to already have an undergraduate degree to study this course, as the modules you study and the credits you gain are not at Masters/postgraduate level. For secondary teachers of a Modern Foreign Language (MFL), this course provides an additional teaching qualification in German, as it is accredited by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) and carries a credit rating of 120 SCOTCAT points at SCQF levels 9-10.
A pass in Higher German (or equivalent, such as the Dundee Intensive German course by distance-learning).
