If you want to enrich and develop your career whilst still working, then this Degree Apprenticeship is for you. You'll acquire the industry knowledge, skills and behaviours, essential for your career in this field.
Our apprenticeship is designed to meet the ever-changing environment faced by geotechnical engineers. You'll benefit from our strong industry links and our excellent research, helping you enhance both your technical and managerial skills.
You'll be equipped with the ability to plan and direct ground investigations and laboratory testing, providing the basis for interpreting results and proposing the best methods of design and construction.
Accredited programme
This degree programme is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) comprising of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Institute of Highway Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and the Permanent Way Institution on behalf of the Engineering Council, as meeting the academic requirement for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).
Course delivery
Our course is made of two parts: a 30 month off-the-job training period (where you'll attend lectures, undertake assessments and also complete a portfolio of evidence which demonstrate the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours you have to show) and an End Point assessment (where you'll give a presentation on your research and answer questions).
Two people will be appointed to help you through the whole of this process one will be provided by your company (your mentor) and another from the university (your tutor). You'll regularly meet both to help you navigate your training needs. You'll acquire the knowledge, skills and behaviours relevant to your employment.

Our Geotechnical Engineer Level 7 Degree Apprenticeship will provide you with a broad understanding of how to model and analyse the ground in relation to natural and engineering processes.
The apprenticeship focuses on essential aspects of the subject, such as: physical, chemical and mechanical properties of soils and rocks ground investigation field and laboratory testing engineering geology and site investigation analysis, design and construction of foundations, retaining walls, tunnels, embankments and slopes including methods of ground reinforcement and improvement.
First degree in a relevant subject or an equivalent professional qualification.
