The Masters in Geospatial Data Science and Modelling will equip you with specialist geospatial, analytical, programming and modelling skills that can be applied to data in a broad range of sectors. You will get hands-on experience and gain a practical understanding of geospatial statistics. Computationally and mathematically literate graduates with the ability to address geospatial problems are in increasing demand across industries. This programme is one of very few in the UK to focus on geospatial and data science modelling and is unique to Scotland If you are from a geographical or earth science background and are looking to develop applied data science modelling skills, this programme is designed for you The programme is highly applied and has been developed in consultation with industry to ensure our graduates are equipped with the knowledge and skills to meet global demands for professionals in this field. The flexible structure allows you to create a bespoke curriculum tailored towards your areas of interest within geoscience modelling. Our research-led teaching is delivered by academics at the forefront of debates in geomorphology, geomagnetism, geophysics, plate tectonics, hydrography, and GIS within the geoscience field.Career prospectsThis programme will provide students with the knowledge and skills to work at the interface between computational modelling and geospatial professions. This includes areas such as GIS, environmental modelling, flood and landscape modelling, environmental engineering consulting and protection. The MSc will also prepare students for PhD study in a multitude of research fields.
2.1 Hons (or non-UK equivalent) in a relevant field such as Geography, Earth or Environmental Science with basic mathematical competence and a pass at Scottish Higher/A Level/IB or non-UK equivalent in mathematics.
We may sometimes accept degrees at 2.2 Hons or non-UK equivalent.
Entry without standard academic qualifications, or with technical qualifications in geomatics for those with significant practical experience in related employment, will be considered on an individual basis. Study of this program would consist a significant use of Computers and IT
