The discipline draws on knowledge from many different aspects of science such as chemistry, biology, and physics as well as other subjects such as geography and environmental science. Our society is based on the work of geologists in the hunt for natural resources for energy and materials for modern living. Geologists are likely to be in high demand for years to come due to the continuous evolution of modern societies.Geophysics is a practical subject with applied problem-solving laboratory classes and field courses where you will learn how to collect, process and interpret geophysical data, and explore for future geological resources. This specialist course focuses particularly on applied geophysical research skills and you will learn to carry out your own research using specialist geophysical software and equipment. You will also examine the uses of geophysics in geotechnics, ground engineering, geoforensics and environmental monitoring. There is a strong emphasis on developing fieldwork, laboratory, communication and applied research skills.BSc Geology (Applied Geophysics) is an applied course that examines the Earth, its structure, formation, composition, history, processes, hazards and materials. This course covers a range of topics which may include looking at rocks, minerals and fossils and geological processes. Beyond that, a range of optional modules allow you to tailor your degree towards your individual interests and career aspirations. Our courses are strongly aligned to the role of geoscience in the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
