This course aims This module aims to provide a foundation for working with 3D Models. It aims to cover how 3D surfaces and objects are developed, textured and lit. It aims to describe and investigate a range of settings where 3D models can be utilised. The course covers the principles, theory and practice of preparing 3D models for a range of applications both real time and pre rendered. It will aim to appraise the new and emerging technologies which are impacting on the industry. It aims to cover a range of modelling techniques, including box polygon and patch modelling. It describes the range of professional roles within the 3D modelling pipeline.
The aim of this course is to develop the skills necessary to create visual narratives across a range of gaming and digital media applications. It aims to address how to produce conceptual design documentation in response to a brief. Students will form large teams and use established management techniques to oversee the development of a fully realised demonstration of a video game. Students will identify a clear job role in industry and through a report, identify the responsibilities that a person with that job role would fulfil. Students will work towards the specialisation in that field through people working in the industry.
This course is designed This module aims to provide students with an environment that closely resembles a full development cycle of a video game developed in a small studio. Students will form large teams and use established management techniques to oversee the development of a fully realised demonstration of a video game. Students will identify a clear job role in industry and through a report, identify the responsibilities that a person with that job role would fulfil. The Final Year Project requires students to work independently, abstract the essentials of a problem, obtain solutions by appropriate methods, and present their arguments through a user acceptance testing of the end-product/artefact as well as a well-reasoned formal dissertation report. Prospective employers often require that the student is able to tackle a non-standard problem, organise their work, show a high level of commitment with an awareness of their target audience and present their conclusions in a number of forms. Projects develop practical, analytical and communication skills, and are specifically designed to encourage students to initiate, plan and execute research programmes. Similarly, admissions tutors for Postgraduate courses and Research awards need to be reasonably certain that an applicant will be able to employ these same skills in order to carry out research and put those results in a thesis.
