The foundation year will help you take your first step into higher education, broadening your industry knowledge and enabling you to progress to an undergraduate degree. It aims to help you develop a strong foundation of game design, alongside academic and transferable skills, to ensure you get the most out of your degree-level studies.


Games Design at Canterbury Christ Church University seeks to develop creatives who can challenge and advance the games industry. Our research and industry lead approach will allow you to explore your creative voice and question what it means to make and play.

You’ll explore the processes in design and development and learn how to create games for a range of multimedia platforms that include digital and table-top games for a technological world that is constantly evolving. You’ll build a creative portfolio, showcasing skills in a specialist area of your choice that you have developed throughout the course.As part of a studio-based community, you’ll have access to creative spaces that reflect the studio environments our teaching team have worked in, this will prepare you for industry and help you achieve your very best. From the ground up, we’ll support you in developing technical and teamworking skills needed to succeed in this exciting area.

Specialist facilities

You’ll have access to a range of excellent facilities, including our dedicated creative arts building, Daphne Oram, which houses:- An extensive technology suite home to innovative games design equipment, including high-performance PCs, Mac lab, VR headsets, and equipment to loan.- Study areas that allow you to work independently or as a group, creating a vibrant creative learning culture.- A wealth of resources to learn, play, and explore. Including: video game consoles, games and media to borrow, a library of board-games, and more.


Location

This course is run at our Canterbury Campus in Kent. Canterbury is just 50 miles south-east of London and less than an hour by high-speed train from St Pancras. Located on a UNESCO World Heritage Site the campus offers state-of-the-art buildings, right in the centre of a vibrant and world-famous cathedral city. You’ll benefit from a campus with excellent learning and teaching resources, music venues, a superb sports centre, a well-stocked bookshop and plenty of coffee bars and places to eat. A short walk away is Augustine House our award-winning library and home to a vast range of learning resources and student support teams.
