Where will this course lead?
Our full time degree in Games Design and Virtual Reality aims to equip students with the knowledge, technical expertise and professional skills that will enhance their prospects of gaining employment in fields requiring virtual reality, the computer games industry or related disciplines such as Interaction design, special effects, instructional design, mobile app design and to enable them to continue their education to postgraduate level in a related discipline.
How will this course be delivered?
This is a three year programme consisting primarily of practical, classroom based study. The outcome skills and abilities differ and module learning and assessment activities are designed accordingly. Classes will take place in modern high quality specially designed labs and will blend theory and practical with a strong emphasis on skills.
How will I be assessed?
Students are mainly assessed by a combination of coursework assignments and practical tasks. The majority of the assessment is individual; however there are requirements within some modules for group activities. The aim of the course is that at the end of each year you show off learning so far by creating an individual or group project which could be a game or virtual reality experience.
What else do I need to know?
The college has recently made a significant investment in Virtual Reality with two labs equipped with a range of high quality virtual reality development equipment including Oculus, Vive and Hololens headsets.
Throughout the programme you will undertake a Personal Development Plan (PDP) to track your progress through the course.
This course also offers students the opportunity to study additional areas where students are encouraged to work towards vendor specific qualifications within their programme of study, such as Microsoft Qualifications in industry recognised areas such as programming or web design.
Other specialised qualifications may also be studied outside of the main programme such as the CISCO CCENT (Cisco Certified Entry) or CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) awards or Microsoft Vendor qualifications.

Solihull College & University Centre is based in the Birmingham suburb of Solihull and offers courses from post-school age (16yrs) up to degree level.
To provide accreditation for its courses, the college works in partnership with several universities, including Oxford Brookes, Newman, Coventry and Northampton universities. It also offers HNCs and HNDs through Pearson.
The college has two campuses; Blossomfield Campus near Solihull town centre, and Woodlands Campus in north Solihull.
The college was awarded a Gold rating from the Teaching Excellence Framework for its university level provision before its merger with Stratford-upon-Avon College in 2018. It was the only college in the West Midlands to achieve this, beating various Russell Group universities.
