Course Overview:
This course will provide you with an opportunity to develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of early years and related issues, enabling you to become a confident and competent, well qualified Early Years Practitioner. It will also give you a nationally recognised qualification and evidence of your ability to work in the Early Years sector. In addition, successful completion of the Foundation Degree at a required level will allow you to progress to year 2 of the BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies.
You will study 12 modules: Shared Perspectives in the Young Child, Skills and Strategies for Managing Behaviour, Safeguarding Children, Special Educational Needs, Promoting Inclusion in the Early Years Environment, Language and Communication, Professional Practice, Learning through Play and Anti-Discriminatory Practice. Assessment methods include assignments, case studies, practical exercises, presentations, examinations and placement assessments.
You can progress into employment or to university - Teacher Training qualification, an (Hons) Degree in Early Childhood Studies, Psychology, Nursing, Paediatrics, Social Work, Youth Work or another related profession. Enrolment on this course is subject to a satisfactory Access NI check. As placement is an integral part of your qualification a self declaration of current health status is implicit as part of the overall risk assessment process.
