Introduction
This programme is designed to give you the skills, knowledge and expertise necessary to enter a career in Law. Additionally, it will develop your understanding of the role of business in society and develop knowledge of the main functional areas; accounting, marketing and human resources.
You will acquire knowledge of UK and European laws and you will examine and demonstrate principles of contract and commercial law, and apply them to business scenarios. You will identify interpret and explain standard clauses in business contracts.
You don’t need any prior knowledge of business studies or marketing before choosing this subject. You will gain a broad introduction to the subject in your first year and study more specialist subjects in the second year. You will also be able to work on a work based learning project, giving you hands-on experience.
Our Foundation degree programmes are run in partnership with, and validated by, the University of Hertfordshire.
What will I study?
The course will appeal to those students who have a keen interest in business law and want to move on to a career in the Business Law industry and would want to obtain industry-standard professional qualifications.
You will be learning through projects and case studies, and you’ll also have the opportunity to take part in work-based learning with local and national employers. The cases you work on will be supported by examples from the courtroom, and you’ll also learn practical applications of the law, such as how to bring a case to an employment tribunal. During the course you'll also develop necessary skills that are highly sought after by employers.
What can I do next?
Your Foundation degree is a standalone qualification that allows you to enter the world of work. Past students have specialised in an academic or professional career, or taken jobs in finance, law, IT and other areas. If you’d like to continue your studies, the majority of our students progress to the second or final year at university to achieve a BA(Hons).
