Thispostgraduatediplomaprovidesamultidisciplinaryunderstandingoftheconnectionbetweenmentaldisorderandcriminalbehaviour,andtheapproachesforreducingviolencethroughappropriatecareandmanagementofthoseatriskofoffending.Itencompassesapproachesfromforensicpsychology,psychiatry,criminologyand'sociologyaswellaspublichealth.
Weofferyouadistinctivepsychosocialfocus,akeycomponentofcurrentMinistryofJusticeandDepartmentofHealthPolicy.Thisapproachhelpsyoutoreflectonyourownexperiencesandpracticeinawaythatdevelopsyour'skillsasaclinician,researcherorleaderinthefield,aswellasprovidingaframeworkfor'safeandtherapeuticworkwithoffenders.
Thisprogrammeisintendedfor'studentswhoareinterestedinanappliedcourseinforensicpsychology,forensicpsychiatryand/orcriminologybutdonotrequire'Stage1accreditationfortheBritishPsychological'SocietyfortheQualificationinForensicPsychology(QFP).
Thisprogrammeisaimedatyouifyouwanttolearnmoreaboutforensicmentalhealthbutarenotcurrentlyinterestedintrainingasaforensicpsychologist.Itwillideally'suityouifyouhavearesearchinterestinforensicmentalhealthand/oranexistingprofessionalidentityincriminology,nursing,psychiatry,probationor'socialwork.
Degree requirements: A good 2:2 or above at undergraduate level in Psychology or a related discipline such as Sociology, Criminology, Law, or a Medical degree (non-UK medical degrees marked on a grading scale must be equivalent to UK good 2:2).
