In choosing to study a degree in Fine Art and English Literature (WQ13) at Aberystwyth University you will be part of one of the best art departments in the UK. The School of Art focuses on integrating traditional skills with contemporary theory and practice to produce first-class fine art students. We place drawing at the heart of the student experience in light of the recent revival of interest in traditional drawing skills; our School of Art is at the vanguard of contemporary art education. You will also follow the core syllabus for English Literature meaning you will complete your degree with a great combination of skills and competences. Students on this course will benefit from the disciplined acquisition of technical expertise, the formation of creative intelligence, and a historical, critical, theoretical contemporary awareness of Fine Art practice. You will be studying in a department that has been awarded 'Accredited Museum Status' by Arts Council England. In the Department of English and Creative Writing staff research interests cover a wide variety of topics and range from ancient Greek and Roman literature to contemporary poetry and novels, but have particular strengths in Welsh writing in English, women’s writing, Romantic literature and Medieval and Early Modern literature. You will be encouraged to develop your powers of expression, hone your critical thinking, and establish specialist knowledge and research skills. Students on this course will benefit from our close association with the University's Arts Centre, which is one of the largest in the UK and a major venue for exhibitions by contemporary artists and designers. Students in our department can exploit our exciting opportunities such as studying abroad under the Erasmus + programme (studying in any of our European partnered Universities in countries such as Turkey, Norway and Germany). We also offer students to take part in several field trips and the destinations have previously included: Madrid, Paris, Rome Moscow, Lisbon to name a few. On completion of this degree, you will emerge with the core skills that employers are seeking, which makes the transition from campus to career just that bit easier.
