You will learn how to navigate the industry, which will support the technical and creative film craft skills you develop throughout your studies. This course will immerse you within a community of creative, collaborative practice where the art of filmmaking is at the centre. You will learn how to navigate the industry, which will support the technical and creative film craft skills you develop throughout your studies. Film production is continuously evolving, and we are constantly adapting our courses to meet the needs of the industry. This courses intensive curriculum will challenge you to develop your skills and prepare you for todays production world. Moreover, you will gain experience shooting your projects on the newest developments in HD, film and digital equipment – from Canon 6D to Red Raven – and classic film cameras such as Panavision and Arriflex on 8mm, super 16mm and 35mm film.

Throughout the course, you will create a professional showreel, which will serve as a calling card for your filmmaking skills and upon graduating, you will be a fully-fledged filmmaker who is ready to progress into work within the film and TV industry as well as other exciting areas such as digital media, marketing and distribution.

This course is offered through our partnership with BIMM University.

Why Take the Course?

Practical: Each year, the course curriculum is designed to progressively build your filmmaking skills, combining creative, technical, and logistical training. With a focus on real-world application, the course offers specialist pathways in directing, cinematography, post-production, screenwriting, sound, and production design. These pathways support the production of multiple short films across various genres, such as documentary, narrative, music video, and experimental, allowing you to develop and refine your craft in a dedicated film school environment.

Comprehensive: The BA (Hons) Filmmaking course provides a holistic understanding of film production, equipping you with the skills needed to succeed in the dynamic and competitive film industry. From foundational principles in your first year to advanced production techniques in your final year, this course is designed in collaboration with industry professionals to reflect the latest practices and standards. Whether youre interested in narrative storytelling or experimental filmmaking, youll gain a comprehensive education in all aspects of film production.

Industry-facing: Throughout the course, you will have opportunities to engage with the industry through placements, live briefs, and networking events. The course includes industry practitioner talks, masterclasses, and demonstrations, ensuring that you learn directly from professionals who are actively working in the field. MetFilm School, which serves as the production base, offers an environment that mirrors the professional industry, providing you with valuable insights and connections that can help you launch your career.

Real-life Experience: This course is designed to immerse you in the realities of film production. From technical workshops and equipment testing to rehearsals with actors and script development, you will engage in practical, hands-on learning experiences. By the time you graduate, you will have produced a portfolio of work, including a high-quality graduate film that demonstrates your ability to self-manage and meet professional standards. The Creative Futures team will continue to support you in securing work placements and paid opportunities in the film, streaming, and television industries.

Our selection of students is based on potential and is therefore flexible. The academic entry requirements listed are indicative only and we encourage applications from students who may not have the qualifying entry requirements but can demonstrate a proactive commitment to narrative film, documentary, music promo or other types of moving image creation.
