This Film and Television Production Degree will equip you with the varied skillset, experience and portfolio required to enter, work and succeed in today’s Film and TV industries.This is a practice-based course that aims to train the complete, versatile, contemporary film-maker, with a strong academic and theoretical underpinning. Our students are well served by high-end professional film cameras, a Film Studio, a multi-camera TV Studio as well as a new, state-of-the art Virtual Production facility. This module provides students with an introduction to the practical, technical and creative professional practices required to make multi-camera TV studio productions.
Designed to provide students with an introduction to the practical, technical and creative professional practices required to make multi-camera TV studio productions. The course will enable students to gain an understanding of the skills and technologies required for careers in studio production and provide an opportunity to apply this knowledge to creating their own studio productions. Students will work in teams to develop their problem solving abilities and pursue their goals to gain a better understanding of the contemporary studio environment.
This course aims to introduce students to professional production practices and the fundamental concepts behind post-production and its impact on filmmaking. This will include design and devel-opment, planning and production management as well as workflows, techniques, problem solving, professionalism and communication. The major areas it will cover are producing, directing, cinema-tography, sound, production design and audio-visual storytelling.
This course aims to enable students to become multi-skilled practitioners in a collaborative environment as preparation for work in film and television. It is intended to enhance and augment their creative and technical expertise and encourage them to experiment with what they know. They will be encouraged to use, critique and challenge established film and TV practices, and through this to reflect critically on practice, feeding that reflection back into their work.
This course is to enable and develop students awareness of the business models and opportunities within the Film & Television industries in the UK and beyond. With the shift away from production houses and in-house production at all levels in the industry, students need to be able to understand how to initiate and engage with new opportunities and new production models that can serve them well in the marketplace. This introduction to digital entrepreneurship in film and TV includes how they deal with business models, software development and the digital start-up ecosystem, as well as practical areas like self-employment, career development and the freelance culture.
Placement Year
The CPDA professional practice placement aims to help students synthesise knowledge and skills acquired during the first two years of the degree programme and apply them appropriately in a working environment under the supervision of an employer. It provides students with the opportunity to manage and enhance the development of their own personal skills, acquire and develop a range of skills such as communication skills, professional awareness, technological and creative skills, employability skills, and have the opportunity to apply them in a work environment. It also aims to provide students with an opportunity to work supervised and unsupervised with an appreciation of work ethics.
This course works alongside the final year student graduate film project to help underpin a thorough understanding and practical knowledge of the production process in Film and TV. It particularly focuses on supporting their journey through pre-production of their own films and encouraging them to approach their endeavours with reference to real world industry. This also includes strategies to help market and distribute their films beyond university.
