The University of Kent was one of the first universities in the UK to introduce Film Studies as an academic programme as early as 1977 and has a long-standing tradition of marrying creative practice with history, theory and criticism. This means as a student on our MA Film (Film with Practice) you will develop as both a filmmaker and a critical thinker. You’ll receive advanced training in key areas of production, such as cinematography, sound design and editing, while sharpening your analytical skills and deepening your film knowledge through a wide range of optional modules. Supported by award-winning practitioners, skilled technicians and internationally recognised scholars you will develop the craft, confidence and professionalism required for today’s job market. The programme culminates in a creative project, giving you an opportunity to further refine your artistic voice and produce work as a writer/director of fact or fiction film. We offer a fully equipped Film Studio, Sound Studio, production design workshop, and purpose-built individual edit suites to help you bring your creative projects to life. We also have our own cinema. With excellent links to film professionals and film bodies, such as the British Film Institute, Arts Council England, the Independent Cinema Office and Kent Film Office you’ll benefit from guest lectures, workshops, real-world opportunities and a fantastic industry network when you graduate.
