Portuguese is the most widely spoken language in the southern hemisphere, and the cultures of countries such as Brazil and Angola are complex and fascinating. This joint honours degree course allows you to combine the study of film with Portuguese. Portuguese is the most widely spoken language in the southern hemisphere, and the cultures of countries such as Brazil and Angola are complex and fascinating. This course offers a particularly strong intellectual challenge with a cosmopolitan perspective. Portuguese is available from beginners' level only.In the Department of Film and Television, guided by leading scholars and practitioners, you will explore the history, criticism and context of film and television. You will consider theoretical perspectives, appreciate how films are made and engage in creative work such as practical filmmaking activities.You will study film alongside Portuguese language, history and culture units, choosing from a wide range of options that allow you to pursue your own interests. Both departments offer a vibrant learning environment with research-led teaching.You will spend your third year abroad on a study or work placement in a Portuguese-speaking country, refining your language skills and cultural understanding. To find out more about studying abroad, visit Centre for Study Abroad.In your final year you will return to Bristol, where you have the chance to undertake a range of guided project work, including a placement in the creative industries.
