provides clear foundations on which to build your skills in both practical film/broadcast productions and the concepts behind them. You will undertake practical units in camera, editing and broadcast studio technology whilst studying ideas and concepts in analysing visual imagery, interpreting narratives and understanding audiences.
Year 1 modules:-visual imagery -audience and narrative -single camera production -television practical skills
Year 2 (Level 5)gives the chance to continue building and developing your practical skills and how to work with clients.
Year 2 modules:-TV newscast-working with a client-audio productionAnd choose one from:-documentary video production or-fictional video production
Year 3 (Level 6)provides the opportunity to show academic understanding with a dissertation whilst also analysing what skill sets they need to improve to meet practical and production based understanding needed in the industry through the completion of a module in advanced video skills. Finally, students will undertake an independently planned and managed production project to demonstrate their skills to potential employers.
Year 3 modules:-film/TV dissertation-advanced video skills-video production and enterpriseThe final-year dissertation/research project allows students to complete an independent body of research on a related topic of their choice. This will require students to demonstrate their ability to conduct original research, analyse data, and present their findings in a clear and concise manner. Students will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the programme to a real-world issue within film or digital broadcasting.
AssessmentA combination of traditional and innovative assessment methods are used: including case studies, group projects, live briefs, peer review, time-constrained assessments and presentations. There are no examinations.
Qualification awarded:- Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Film and Digital Broadcast Production - awarded by The Open University (OU).
