**Please note that the information provided relates to the current academic year and is subject to change without notice.Please check the Northern College website for the latest information.**The Foundation of Sciences Degree (FdSc) Professional Practice in Health and Social Care is a two-year full time, foundation degree course. It is made up of on-campus delivery at Northern College and a placement in a suitable environment to develop the skills needed to work in Health and Social Care.Students will be registered at both Sheffield Hallam University and Northern College, and benefit from:- choosing to study residentially at Northern College to focus on their studies and receive wrap-around support- be surrounded by over 500 acres of National Trust gardens and parkland free to explore during their studies at Northern College- have access to small class sizes and excellent on-campus support- study in a college designed only for adults which has excellent achievement rates and is rated outstanding by Ofsted.Students will also be able to access resources, support and services at Sheffield Hallam University.The course will be delivered over two days per week. The 400-hour work placement in a health and social care role will meet the learning outcomes of the programme and build the competencies and skills required to achieve the Foundation Degree.The placement is usually completed over two days per week in addition to your classroom-based learning from January to May in year.Year 1:Work-based learning-academic (20 Credits)Work-based learning-practice (20 Credits)Reflective & personal development skills (20 Credits)Essential sciences for person centred care (40 Credits)Integrated holistic assessment and delivery of health and social care interventions (20 Credits)Year 2:Work based learning-academic (20 Credits)Work-based learning-practice (20 Credits)Promoting health, wellbeing and independence (40 Credits)Using and evaluating evidence to inform practice (20 Credits)Leadership and management. (20 Credits)The evidence for the work-based learning modules in Year 1 and 2 will be from your work placement.What can this course lead to?Upon successful completion of the Foundation Degree you may be able to gain direct entry in to the second year for a number of professional courses:BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult)BA (Hons) Social WorkBSc (Hons) PhysiotherapyBSc (Hons) Diagnostic RadiographyBSc (Hons) Occupational TherapyBSc (Hons) Paramedic ScienceIn addition to the above awards, a bespoke top-up degree is also available which is delivered at Sheffield Hallam University for students to achieve the full degree after completion of the Foundation Degree.
