The Foundation Degree in Fashion and Textiles will develop knowledge and understanding of fashion and textiles design with emphasis on demonstrating your ability to work independently improving your drawing and constructive skills. The Foundation Degree in Fashion and Textiles will develop knowledge and understanding of fashion and textiles design with emphasis on demonstrating your ability to work independently improving your drawing and constructive skills. A range of print, stitch, knit, weaves and felt constructed textile workshops will be delivered in order for you to become familiar with experimental techniques using traditional processes. Digital workshops will allow you to become familiar with the use of Photoshop and Illustrator enabling you to scan and manipulate your fashion and textile designs. Basic pattern cutting skills will be addressed and you will develop your knowledge of garment construction techniques.In Year Two, you will further develop your knowledge and understanding of combining traditional techniques with contemporary processes. You will have the opportunity to learn design repeat and construct garments using fabric manipulation techniques. Advanced research methods will allow you to recognise trending forecasts supporting you to produce innovative and original bespoke designs.Workshops will include the use of fashion styling and promotion. Visiting lecturers and guest speakers will support you in recognising industry standards and allow you to showcase your collection of work imaginatively.Throughout the course you will have the chance to engage in local and national competitions and showcase events, offering you the chance to build industry contacts and work experience opportunities. In addition, you will be able to learn the core functions of marketing and operations within a business organisation allowing you the opportunity to run your own business venture.Teaching and learning on the course will be delivered through a range of lectures, practical workshops, research seminars, group work, analysis of live fashion events and textile craft fairs.Guest speakers from different areas of the fashion and textiles industry will facilitate professional workshops and Q&A sessions. Students will be involved in local and national showcasing events, competitions and freelance work.
