Develop a rounded knowledge of Europe that is ideal for future careers in government, cultural institutions or academia. The European Culture and Thought: Culture MA enables you to pursue a broad range of study depending on your interests, bringing together topics of European culture, society and thought. Taught at the UCL Centre for Multidisciplinary and Intercultural Inquiry (CMII), this is an interdisciplinary degree taught by esteemed experts. The course aims to equip students with the skills, methods, concepts and theories essential for most fields of European culture, society and thought, encompassing the events, traditions and texts of the entire continent. You will learn how to present material effectively, to analyse texts critically and to construct coherent arguments. The European Culture and Thought: Culture MA, comprises of three compulsory modules, which are designed to work as a postgraduate-level foundation and provide you with the specific skills and knowledge to research, write academic essays and the dissertation. These core modules cover a range of disciplines, and will help you identify areas of interest for further study. You will explore topics in cultural studies, as well as build your knowledge of the theoretical issues in European culture, thought, history and literature. You will also take optional modules and a dissertation. If you choose the 60-credit dissertation, you take 60 credits of optional modules. If you choose the 90-credit research dissertation, you take fewer optional modules (30 credits), in favour of writing an extended dissertation to focus on your own interests. There are two routes for the MA European Culture and Thought: 1. European Culture and Thought: Culture; and 2. European Culture and Thought: Thought. Each route has two pathways: Taught and Research. The course is designed for students who wish to pursue a wide range of interests within a flexible combination of core and optional modules. Students select either the Taught or the Research pathway depending on their personal focus and aspirations.
