Are you passionate about a career in sports but don't have the formal qualifications for a degree? Our Sports Return to Study programme could be the perfect fit if you're 21 or older.

Our fast-track Return to Study entry programme is delivered part-time over six weeks. The course prepares you to apply for a relevant degree programme starting in September 2024.

We are passionate about making sure education is accessible for everyone and want to help you reach your goals. You could be eligible for this course if you're over 21 and have experience working in areas such as:

Sport (including coaching and business management)

Exercise science

Human nutrition and health

Outdoor adventure leadership

About Return to Study

If you want a change of career but don't have the entry qualifications then this programme is for you. We'll help you develop the knowledge and skills needed to apply for a degree programme starting in September 2024. Studying at degree level may seem daunting. This course helps to break down the jargon and introduces you to skills you'll need for degree-level study, such as:

Academic writing

Research

Presentation skills

This course will help you to refresh your learning skills and build your confidence. It will also provide subject introductions to the full range of sports-related degrees delivered by the university.

You'll get a taster of university study through a combination of online sessions as well as self-guided study. Sessions run on Wednesdays 6pm - 8pm and Saturdays 9am - 11am via online delivery.

The programme will finish with an optional on-campus session. During this session, you can meet the course team, our student ambassadors and tour the campus and facilities.

Why study with us

This free programme helps prepare you for study on one of our sports-related degree courses. These include Coaching, Exercise Science, Outdoor Adventure Leadership, Physical Education or Nutrition.

You'll be supported and assessed against the entry requirements. You'll then be eligible to apply for a foundation year or Year 1 of one of our sports-related degree courses.

This course takes a multidisciplinary approach to introduce you to various sport-related disciplines. It also provides a foundation in university study skills required for success.

Future careers

During the Return to Study Sports course, you'll be able to apply to a range of courses within the areas of sport and exercise at Year 0 or Year 1.

Graduates from our courses progress into careers in a wide variety of settings including:

  • Sports coaches

  • Performance nutritionists
  • Teaching (Schools, Colleges, and Universities)
  • Leadership roles in the outdoors industry
