Over the course of the year, you will build the skills and experience to prepare you for your chosen degree.Our English degree invites you to think about how literature and language shapes the world around you, your place within it, and how it can engage you with the issues that matter in the modern world. You will have the opportunity to study a range of texts from different cultures, perspectives, and periods, with particular emphasis on modern and contemporary writing.As well as this, you may explore texts like blogs, social media posts, film and TV to help you think about the big issues of the day. Currently, these might include the discussions happening around immigration and race, gender identity, and climate change. Throughout the course, tutors place a strong emphasis on developing high-level communication skills which range from critical thinking to negotiation with others and include progression in your own learning. These are skills that employers value and there are opportunities within the degree to explore your own career aspirations.
