Study the greats of English Literature, such as Shakespeare and Dickens, and gain key skills in analysis and communication on this Foundation Entry course. Our Foundation Entry degree courses are ideal if you’ve got the ability to study for a degree, but don’t have the necessary formal qualifications to directly join an Honours programme. It’s a great stepping stone to a full degree. Develop and strengthen your love of literary texts and gain skills in analysis, written and oral communication, and cultural and social sensitivity. You’ll study Shakespeare, Dickens and the Brontë sisters, and you can also take options in American drama and literature, the fairy tale, children’s literature, the Gothic and the Grotesque. Our course offers a unique combination of subject expertise, knowledge of the intellectual heritage of literature, and learning activities designed to make you more employable. Study abroad as part of your course – we have a scheme where you can choose to spend a semester or year abroad, with exchange agreements with universities in many countries. Our graduates also pursue careers in management, commerce and public service. Further study is also available at master’s or PhD level. Our alumni have worked for the BBC on Woman’s Hour, writing for the Guardian and Independent newspapers, in government advisory positions and in digital media in the UK and overseas.
